Consejos para tu estancia

Te recomendamos ir a clase desde el primer día, aunque todavía no hayas hecho la matrícula. El profesorado ya sabe que el estudiantado de movilidad internacional aún no aparecéis en su lista.

Cuando te hayas asegurado de que quieres hacer una asignatura, después de haber asistido a una o dos clases, pídele al profesor o profesora que, por favor, te dé acceso a su Campus Virtual. Tendrás que darle tu nombre y tu e-mail UCM. Así, podrás ver el programa y los demás documentos o actividades que comparta con el grupo, sin esperar a que te matriculemos.

Si tu lengua materna no es el español, es completamente normal que al principio te cueste un poco seguir las clases. No te preocupes: recuerda que ya has estudiado el idioma antes de venir, y tienes un nivel suficiente. Durante tu estancia, irás ganando fluidez poco a poco, así que ¡ten paciencia!

No tengas miedo de hablar, pensando que vas a cometer muchos errores. En España, a la mayoría de la gente le gusta conocer a personas de otros países, y valoramos el esfuerzo que alguien hace aprendiendo nuestro idioma. Simplemente, hazlo lo mejor que puedas.

Además, la participación en clase es muy importante para el profesorado, así que no dudes en levantar la mano para preguntar o aportar tus ideas al debate (no importa si tus frases no son correctas al 100%).

Cada profesor/a tiene su propia forma de organizar su asignatura. Puede que sea algo confuso al principio, porque los métodos de enseñanza no serán exactamente los mismos en cada clase. Es importante que leas el programa, que estará disponible en el Campus Virtual. En los primeros días os explicarán todo lo que tenéis que hacer (exámenes, trabajos, presentaciones...), las fechas de entrega y el porcentaje que representa cada actividad en la calificación final.

Nuestra Facultad es muy abierta y diversa: todo el mundo puede sentirse bienvenido, vengan de donde vengan. Aprovecha la oportunidad de conocer a tus compañeros/as españoles y participar de la vida universitaria. Eso te ayudará a practicar el idioma, aprender sobre el país... y, en muy poco tiempo, te sentirás "como en casa".

Y si necesitas ayuda...
- Con las asignaturas: Ante cualquier problema, habla siempre con tu profesor/a: al final de la clase, por e-mail o en su despacho (su horario de tutorías se indicará en el programa de la asignatura). El delegado o delegada de tu clase también te podrá ayudar en lo que sea necesario. Si en tu clase no tenéis delegado/a, puedes contactar con la Delegación de Estudiantes de la Facultad.
- Con los trámites administrativos: El personal de la Oficina de Movilidad Internacional hará todo lo posible por prestarte ayuda, pero te rogamos que también pongas de tu parte. Por favor, lee atentamente sus instrucciones, cumple los plazos que te indiquen y espera a que te respondan antes de volverles a preguntar sobre el mismo tema.
- Con la adaptación a la Facultad y a vivir en Madrid: Esperamos que disfrutes de tu estancia, pero siempre puede haber momentos de desorientación o desánimo, al estar en un entorno totalmente nuevo. Si necesitas hablar con alguien, seguro que tienes compañeros/as dispuestos a apoyarte. También puedes hablar con el Vicedecano de Relaciones Internacionales (vdri@cps.ucm.es); escríbele o pásate por su despacho del Decanato, en la 3ª planta.

You should start coming to class from the first day, even though you will not have completed your registration by then. Professors are fully aware that international students do not appear on their list right away.

Once you have confirmed that you want to take a course, after going to the first one or two classes, ask the professor to please give you access to their Campus Virtual (Moodle). They will need your full name and UCM email. That way, you will be able to see the syllabus and all the other documents or activities that the professor shares with the group, instead of waiting until your registration is completed.

If Spanish is not your native language, it is absolutely normal that you find it a bit difficult to follow your classes in the first few days. Don't worry - remember that you have studied Spanish for some time, and your level is sufficient. You will gradually increase your fluency during your stay, so be patient!

Dont't be afraid of speaking, thinking that you will make lots of mistakes. In Spain, most people are delighted to meet someone from another country, and we value the effort you make to learn our language. Just do your best!

Participation in class is also very important for professors, so don't hesitate to raise your hand to speak - either to make a question or to contribute your ideas to the discussion (it doesn't matter if your sentences are not 100% correct).

Each professor has their own way of organizing their course. This may be confusing at the beginning, because teaching methods will not be exactly the same for each class. You should read the programa (course programme/syllabus), which will be available on Campus Virtual. In the first few days, they will also explain everything you need to do (exams, papers, presentations...), deadlines and how much of the final mark/grade is determined by each activity.

Our Facultad is very open and diverse - everyone can feel welcome, no matter where they come from. Enjoy the opportunity to meet your Spanish classmates and participate in university life. This will help you practise the language, learn about the country... and in a short while, you will really feel at home.

If you need any help...
- With your classes: If you have any problem, you should always tell your professor: after class, by e-mail or during office hours (see the course programme/syllabus). Your student representative will also help you with anything you need. If there is no student representative in your class, you may contact the Delegación de Estudiantes - Students' Union.
- With the administrative procedures: Our staff at the International Mobility Office will do their best to help you, but we need you to cooperate with them as well: please read their instructions carefully, respect the deadlines, and wait until you receive a reply before asking them again about the same topic.
- With adapting to life at our Faculty and in Madrid: We hope that you enjoy your stay, but there may be some moments when you feel a bit disoriented or overwhelmed, being in a completely new environment. If you need to talk, there will always be some classmates ready to give you their support.
